Struggling Between The Immensities

Location: Wilmore, Kentucky, United States

I am a very complex person, with many facets that few people, if any, know about. That is probably because, while I am an open book, I leave it up to others to actually take the initiative to turn the pages. This blog is just a place for me to put down random thoughts and to think aloud sometimes. If you are reading this, thank you for your time and blessings to you.

Beer

Yuenglings Porter
This dark beer has a bit of a head on it which doesn't last very long. The taste is thick and hardy and very pleasant. I will definitely be buying more of this when I travel to Pennsylvania in October.

Yuengling Traditional Lager
This beer has a dark golden color with a quickly disappearing head. It has a sharp, biting flavor to it with just a slight hint of bitterness on the backside of the taste. I think this is another good one from Yuengling.

Bluegrass Brewing Company Nut Brown Ale
This ale has a dark color with a bit of a head on it. It has a thick, hardy flavor to it with a bit of a roasted taste in it. Overall, it is a great drink and I will be buying this one again.

Brooklyn Brewery Oktoberfest
This ale has a dark amber color. It has a smooth malty flavor with a bit of fruitiness and no bitterness. It is very pleasant to drink and I am planning on getting some more while it is still available.

Sierra Nevada Tumbler Autumn Brown Ale
This ale is dark brown in color with a light milky head on it. The taste is a rich, nutty, earthy flavor, if that makes any sense. It has a very slightly bitter aftertaste. But is is pretty good.

Sierra Nevada Celebration Fresh Hop Ale
This ale has a dark golden color with a short-lived head. It has a fruity flavor, kind of like a cider, with a bit of a bite and a very slight bitterness in the aftertaste. Overall, it is a pleasing ale.

Hofbrau Oktoberfest
This Oktoberfest brew has a bright golden color and a descent head on it. The taste is sharp with a bit of bitter underlying it. Overall it is a nice brew but not one of my favorite Oktoberfest beers so far this year. It is a bit too sharp of a taste.

Great Lakes Brewing Co. Oktoberfest
This beer has a dark golden color and a short lived head. It has a spicy, sharp flavor with a bit of a bite to it. It also has a bit of a bitter underlying the taste. Overall it is an okay drink, but not something I will drink very often.

Bell's Octoberfest Beer
This dark golden brown beer has a rich taste with an ever so slight bitter kick to it. It was also just barely sharp on the tongue. It was one of the better Octoberfest beers I have tasted and will probably be getting this one on an annual basis as it comes out.

Samuel Adams Octoberfest
This beer is, like the rest of the Octoberfest beers, a dark golden brown color with a guickly disappearing head on it. The taste of this one is of a slightly spiced beer but the bitterness is considerably stronger than it's competitors. There is just a bit of a bite to it also. As for Octoberfest beers, this is a bit different from the rest, but not in a way that makes it better or worse than the rest. So, overall, it is good but not great.

Schlafly Octoberfest Beer
This Octoberfest beer is, like the others, dark golden in color. The flavor is also, like the others, spicy. But the spices used in this one are clearly different from others giving a different flavor than others. The flavor of this one is pretty good. I don't know if it is good enough to buy again, but if offered to me, I wouldn't turn it down.

Bell's Best Brown Ale
This ale has a dark brown color (as one would expect) with a bit of a golden brown head. It has a taste which seems a bit sweet but overall pleasant. Not sure if it is good enough to buy again, though.

Samuel Smith's Nut Brown Ale
As with the other brown ales, this one has a bit of a head on a dark, golden brown liquid. The flavor is a bit nutty, as the others are. But this one has a bid of an undertaste of something. I can't quite put my finger on it, but it is definitely noticeable on the backside of the taste. Overall, this ale is pretty good.

Yuengling Lord Chesterfield Ale
This ale has a nice, golden color with a thick head on it. The taste is slightly sweet and very pleasant without any hint of bitterness. I will definitely be picking up some more of this the next time I am in Pennsylvania.

Dogfish Head Raison D'Etre
This beer has a dark, reddish-brown color with a bit of a white head on it. The flavor is slightly sweet with a hint of fruitiness. There is no bitterness to it and it tastes a bit like a fruity cider. It is pretty good overall.

Dogfish Head Chicory Stout
This stout is a very dark brown color with a short-lived brown head on it. It has a strong roasted coffee taste to it with an herbal hint to it. I love porters and stouts so I really enjoy this one, despite the fact that I don't like the taste of coffee.

Avery Brewing Co.'s Ellie's Brown Ale
This ale is a dark brown with almost no head on it. It has a nutty flavor that falls lightly on the palate, making for an enjoyable drinking experience. It's flavor tastes heavier than it feels on the tongue.

Samuel Adams Winter Lager
This lager is a light brown with a bit of red to it with a short lived head on it. It has a light aroma with an equally light flavor. It's not light on flavor, but the flavor is light on the tongue with a bit of spice to it. Overall a good drink.

Samuel Adams Holiday Porter
This porter is a dark brown in color with a dark brown, thick head on it. It doesn't have a roasted flavor like other porters. The flavor is smooth and satisfying with just an ever-so-slight hint of bitterness. I really like this porter.

Samuel Adams Black and Brew Coffee Stout
Since I don't like the taste of coffee, I approached this stout with some hesitancy. It is very dark brown in color with a dark brown head, as one would imagine from a stout. The flavor is that of roasted coffee, which wasn't as bad as I thought it would be, but definitely not my first choice because of my distaste for coffee. Overall it is a good drink...for coffee lovers.

Samuel Adams Chocolate Bock
This bock has a dark brown color with a light brown head. It has a roasted flavor to it with an underlying chocolate flavor. Overall, it is pretty good with no bitterness.

Samuel Adams Old Fezziwig Ale
This ale is part of Samuel Adams holiday brews. It is a dark amber ale with a bit of a head on it. The flavor is a bit bitter but not too much. It is kind of light and slightly fruity. Overall it is a good drink.

More Beer

Breckenridge Oatmeal Stout
This beer is very dark in color with very little head on it. The flavor is thick and malty with just a hint of oats to it. I don't know if that hint of flavor is actually in my mouth or just in my head since I know it is an oatmeal stout. Either way, it is a good taste that I will probably try again.

Dogfish Head Red & White
This ale has a peach color to it with a good, thick head on it. It has a peachy flavor to it with a tingle on the tongue. It also has a bit of bitterness to it which, in my opinion, is a negative to the flavor. But, it is pretty good.
