Struggling Between The Immensities

Name:
Location: Wilmore, Kentucky, United States

I am a very complex person, with many facets that few people, if any, know about. That is probably because, while I am an open book, I leave it up to others to actually take the initiative to turn the pages. This blog is just a place for me to put down random thoughts and to think aloud sometimes. If you are reading this, thank you for your time and blessings to you.

More Ale Reviews

Blue Moon Belgian White
This wheat beer has a very light flavor, almost to the point of lacking flavor. It would really hit the spot on a hot, summer day. There is very little, hardly any really, bitterness throughout the drink. Overall, a good example of a wheat beer.

Dogfish Head Aprihop
This seasonal brew from Dogfish Head has a really dark golden brown color with a light head that disappears in a minute or two. The taste is that of a beer, but on the backside of the taste there is a taste of apricot. The apricot taste could be stronger, but it was there. I might try this one again next season.

Samuel Adams Black Lager
This Samuel Adams black lager is a very dark brew with a head that disappears quickly. It has a thick, full, roasted flavor which is quite satisfying.

Yuengling Original Black and Tan
This beer is from the oldest brewer in the country. It has a dark color and a rich, roasted flavor. While it is nothing extra-ordinary, it is overall pleasant to drink.

Samuel Adams White Ale
This label on this Sam Adams brew says it is made with spices, so I wasn't sure what to expect. It had a rich, golden color to it and a descent head on it. The first taste was kind of a shock. It is rather bitter, which I didn't expect. The second taste was a bit smoother but I was still unable to identify the taste. I am not sure which spices they use, but I couldn't identify any of them. Whatever they are, this is a very spicey ale.

Breckenridge Vanilla Porter
This brew is a dark but clear brown color with very little head on it. It is brewed with vanilla beans but I really didn't taste vanilla in it, although I am sure they influence the flavor in some way. It has a pleasant taste to it, not too strong but nowhere near weak. It is an overall drink that I will be having again.

Samuel Adams Scotch Ale
This ale has a tan, foamy head on it and a golden color. It has kind of a sweet taste to it with the normal taste of ale behind it. There is no real bitterness to it. The taste is neither heavy or light, but somewhere in the middle. Overall, it is a good drink.

Samuel Adams Boston Lager
This beer has one of the biggest heads I have seen. It has a dark reddish-brown color and a scent that reminds me of a cider. The taste is very mild and also reminds me of a cider flavor. It is a good beer to drink.

Samuel Adams Revolutionary Rye Ale
This ale is a rich golden color with a head which has a slight yellow color to it. This ale has a light flavor to it that is pleasant on the tongue with just a hint of bitterness at the end of the taste. It has a slightly different, heavier taste than a wheat beer. Overall, it is a good tasting ale.

Brooklyn Brewery Brown Ale
This ale has a dark brown color with a short-lived head. It had a peculiar taste to it which seemed to be a mix between a malted grain flavor and a bitterness that is not very appealing. While this ale is okay, it won't be making my regular drink list.

Bell's Lager Beer
This beer is of a light golden color with a bit of a head on it. It has a light, pleasant flavor to it with no bitterness anywhere in it. It is light on the palette and very easy to drink. I will probably be drinking this beer from Michigan one again.

Hudepohl Amber Lager
This lager is a bit more local being from Cincinnati, Ohio. It has a dark, golden brown color with very little head on it when poured. The taste is rather interesting. It is different than anything I have tasted before, making it hard to describe. It is like trying to describe the taste of a mix of spices. On the back side of the taste there is a definite kick of bitterness. It is so different I can't really say if I like it or not. So, I will probably try this one again after sampling some other amber lagers and see how it compares.

Another Ales Review

Guinness Foreign Extra
The Guinness Foreign Extra is one of the darkest ales I have ever had. It has a good head on it and a rich, sweet, malty flavor to it. It also lays heavy on the tongue when drunk.

Guinness Extra Stout
This ale is similar to the Foreign Extra, but is has a lighter taste with a bit less bitterness. While it is different, it is equally enjoyable to drink with it's roasted, malty flavor

Guinness Draught
The head on this one lasted longer than the other two, being more solid after the pour. It's taste is lighter than the others and has a rich, roasted flavor to it. The difference in the heaviness of these makes them a good drink for different circumstances and easy to choose which one is appropriate.
